Setting Out Ones Stall- David Van Gough comes to La Bodega Galleries and Studios

And so, the show ended yesterday, but it's not over by any rotund ladies long stretch.

Here in the afterlife, Purgatorium will still be available to purchase directly from the gallery until January 2015, and although nothing official yet, we are still Bashing out (see what I did there?) tentative plans to extend the remainder of the show in another form. Details to be announced as and when they happen.

A million plans a million dreams.

In the interim, there will be no laurel lounging, because the prodigal son is returned, or at least walking in a new pair of shoes.
Which is why I am stoked to tell you all that from October 8th, I shall be working from the Artist collective at La Bodega gallery and studios in Barrio Logan San Diego, at studio V-quite aptly.

There will be regular shows and I'm looking forward to the local folks dropping by for a cuppa and checking out whats on the easel.

I'll follow with more of the particulars soon, but for now-David it's back to work for you my son.

Keep it Surreal San Diego-House of the Future show

Let the surrealism shindig commence, San Diego's menagerie of collective dreamers, in the house, and one Salvador Dali.

Actually it's one of his holographic clocks, not the man himself-how awesome would that be...a zombified Dali?
Although I'd spend the entire evening cowering in a corner, so not to melt beneath that withering mustachioed gaze.

I dare say the grand master's spirit shall be there.

So to recap:
8:00 until late at The House of the Future,
5481 Toyon Road, San Diego, CA

Art of the Shay Man

"Greed" Oil on Canvas

I first became aware of Shay Davis's work around two years ago. Vast sprawling canvases, full of surreal, multi layered grandeur and bathed in luscious gorgeousness, as well as all manner of dark progeny.

Be it a centaur impaling a rattlesnake with a trident, wild western bandit's sparring on a clockwork railroad, disembodied heads sprouting tentacles or a monumental stone head, rocking on brittle stilts like a propped boat, dwarfing a diminutive elephant sprouting from its jawline below, every piece was painted with the meticulousness of a grand old master.

Unsurprisingly I was to discover upon meeting Shay, that each piece takes months to complete, and that he is currently sequestered for hours completing what will surely be his magnum opus-The Seven Deadly Sins.

"Pride" Oil on Canvas

I've since been honored to share wall space and a growing friendship with Shay, and even if on first appearance, he does remind one a little of a more affable Joaquin Phoenix, it should come as no surprise then that he is also to feature in his own documentary entitled 'Shay Vision' which premiers April 8th at the Birch North Park Theater, here in San Diego.

Tickets are $10 with $1 of every purchase donated to the San Diego Visual Arts Network. For full details go to the following link, get your tickets soon, as this event promises to sell out:

Faith and Formulas show at Thumbprint gallery, by David Gough

1. Tonight is the Faith and Formulas show at Thumbprint gallery, here in San Diego. Having seen the artists installed, I think this show promises to be the best one yet. Doors open at 7pm and runs until midnight-driving directions here: 3925 Ohio St, San Diego, CA 92104
Hope to see some of you there.

2. I had the real pleasure of seeing the demo for the online video game for the first time yesterday. The game elevates the genre from a standard shoot em up, by placing the universe in a series of rotating galleries, all represented by the cream of 'San Diego surrealists'. Its a very exciting project to be involved with, and already has marked interest from art periodicals such as Juxtapoz. Much credit and thanks should go to Producer- the incomparable Dark Vomit-whose work deserves a post all of its own. General release isn't until October 1st from- www.interactiveartshow.com but you can see a short reel demo, in the youtube link below. My dungeon gallery (with decapitation,) shows up at around the 2.02 mark.
